From ambition to adversity to innovation, discover how 401 Digital was born and the pivotal moments that redefined the traditional agency model.
401 Digital’s story began in a modest Toronto home in the late 70's, where a young immigrant couple from St. Vincent dreamed of a better life. From their rooftop, the father would point to the endless stretch of Highway 401. That expansive view planted seeds of ambition in his youngest son, Wayne. Paired with quiet lessons in resilience, hard work, and family, it became the foundation for what would grow into 401 Digital.
A corporate layoff in the spring of 2018 became the unexpected launchpad for 401 Digital. With nothing to lose, a clear vision, and a drive to fix the agency model, 401 Digital, then known as Stewart Design Agency was born.
Airspace, defense & automotive testing company Calspan gave us one of our first major opportunities in the corporate space, providing website consulting and building the framework for their new website. And we delivered. That first check wasn’t just revenue; it was powerful validation that our approach, strategy, and execution truly worked.
Programs like Baltimore Mean Business and Inner City Capital Connections pushed us to think bigger and expand our vision. With new tools to scale, a clearer view of our ideal clients, and a focused marketing plan, that milestone marked the official rebrand to 401 Digital. Today, we’re a growing agency helping brands clarify their message, sharpen their digital presence, and drive real results across the Washington DC/Baltimore region and beyond.
These are the people turning big visions into digital wins, one project at a time.
